Do you ever get confused by the Nutrition Facts on the packaging of the food that you buy? Have you ever wondered why there is sugar in natural peanut butter, carrots, and just about everything else? If not, you should be wondering. I’m going to explain exactly what is going on and show you several specific examples of exactly how to read the Nutrition Facts and the Ingredients on food labels.
I often get questions by patients who are confused by the information presented on food packaging. In this video I’m going to clear some of that up.
Do you look at the ingredients, or at the Nutrition Facts? Let’s look at a couple of examples of both of them, and what you can learn from one that you can’t learn from the other.

Like I said, don’t get too caught up in the Nutrition Facts. Most of the truly valuable information is in the ingredients list.
And look for real food.
Because if you don’t understand it (like hydrogenated fats), or you can’t pronounce it, like all of those artificial ingredients, then you can assume that it’s almost certainly not good for you.
And when it comes to sugars, just focus on the ingredients. If you only look at the Nutrition Facts, you’ll find that everything has sugar in it.
